ART OF PLAY X CRAIGHILL
The Playing Cards strike a fine balance: chic, yet familiar. All of the careful, subtle design choices work in service of the fundamental goal: to relish in an extremely playable deck of cards.
The box is reminiscent of a cassette tape, while echoing the contours of the lid of a grand piano. It features a magnetic closure and a satisfying snap. A chorus of “whoa, that’s cool” will follow wherever it goes. The cards bend, slide, and shuffle exactly as they should, and the handfeel is a thing of great beauty: hard to capture, you’ll know it when you feel it.

For decades this landmark served as an architectural icon for the city, during which time it survived several devastating earthquakes until it was demolished in 1968. Fortunately, the main entrance and hotel lobby were preserved and reconstructed in 1968 at the Museum Meiji-mura, an open-air architectural museum and theme park near Nagoya in Aichi prefecture, Japan.
In celebration of the centennial anniversary of the Imperial Hotel, the Frank Lloyd Wright Foundation has partnered with Art of Play to design a commemorative pack of playing cards based on Wright's original drawings. Pulled from the work of Alexander Calder - A tribute to one of the most influential artists of the twentieth century
One of the most influential artists of the twentieth century, Alexander Calder (1898-1976) disrupted traditional boundaries in art with his suspended abstract mobiles and his monumental stabiles. Removing sculpture from the pedestal, he invited viewers to experience his art directly, a concept that extends to his performative pieces, furniture design, jewelry, and even his paintings.
Calder Playing Cards are based on a set of vivid gouache paintings from the 1970s known as the Card Player series. Many of the cards are direct reproductions from those paintings, with the striped back also pulled from them. All letters and numbers are in Calder's own handwriting.
Since court cards were not included in the original images, the faces for the Jack, King, and Queen were extracted from another series of gouaches that Calder painted around the same period.
Every detail of this deck was faithfully reproduced to celebrate the enduring legacy of Calder, the iconic master of innovation in art

The fourth edition of Eames Playing Cards pays homage to The Little Toy, a small variation of The Toy. In contrast to its larger predecessor, which was made for people to play "in," Charles and Ray made this design for children and adults to play "with."
Originally released in 1952, The Little Toy was designed to inspire creative construction through a series of colorful panels, wireframes and connectors. For playing cards, the components were used to create a minimal numbering system where the small connectors act as edge markings for quick reference.
Eames Playing Cards come in a letterpress-printed tuck case printed on sustainable paper using vegetable-based dyes. The design of the box references the famous home built by Charles and Ray, a creative base where they lived for many years. Made in the USA.
